How Grand Rapids law firm celebrates Administrative Professionals' Day

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Grand Rapids law firm Varnum has been celebrating Administrative Professionals' Day since the unofficial holiday began as Secretary's Day.
Over the years, the focus on support staff has extended to a week of appreciation, says Carroll Vellie, who oversees the Michigan firm's human resource department.
"The goal is always to make it special," said Vellie.
On Wednesday, April 23, the firm treated more than 100 employees to cocktails and a steak lunch that concluded with a fashion show courtesy of Meijer. The Midwest retailer is doing fashion shows at various venues as as part of an effort to get the word out on its trendier apparel options.
The fashion show was intended to offer some inspiration to Varnum employees who are getting a more relaxed dress code, which allows for jeans on an occasional Friday and leggings when paired with a longer tunic.
Teri Garber, a legal secretary in the litigation deparment, says she appreciates Varnum's annual tradition of wining and dining the staff, and liked the fashion show.
"It's very nice," Garber said.
