Gwen was totally gushing over her new co-worker, giving him the credit for being a genius where credit was due. Gwen and Pharrell first met when they collaborated on No Doubt‘s “Hella Good,” which was released in 2001. After Gwen’s introduction, some of the biggest names in music and entertainment talked about what a creative genius Pharrell is, and about his impact on music. After the touching tribute, Pharrell put on a bombastic mash-up performance of “Come Get It Bae,” which led into “Blurred Lines,” which then went into “Get Lucky,” and finally, his hugest hit of late, “Happy.” Pharrell is a totally amazing, inspirational pro, and the show he put on was stellar.

iHeart Radio Music Awards: Pharrell Williams Thanks Wife Helen Lasichanh & Son, Rocket

When he accepted his award, he gave a sweet shout-out to his wife, Helen Lasichanh, and to their young son,Rocket Williams. An excerpt of his speech, which he devoted mainly to his fans:“I never dreamed in a million, million, million years that, as a producer, I’d be standing here as an artist.” [...] “All I did was write the songs, and you guys did all the heavy lifting, all the hard work, all those billions of views on TouTube, all that calling in… thank you guys for lifting me so high! Thank you guys so, so much.”
What a mature, sincere, and genuine performer!
Oh, and, hi, obviously we need to talk about Pharrell’s hat. It looked like a miniature version of something Carmen Sandiego would wear… and we loved it. Though now we’re a little concerned that Pharrell’s head may roll off of his shoulders without a hat on top of it.
