Peaches Geldof died of a heroin overdose, echoing the death of her mother 14 years earlier, according to reports.
The Times of London is reporting that an inquest being held today will hear Geldof died from an overdose after becoming increasingly obsessed with her mother's death.
The 25-year-old was found dead at her family home last month. The mother of two was caring for her 11-month-old son at the time.
Police discovered no evidence of drugs paraphernalia in the star's country house, with allegations items may have been taken away before they arrived, according to the publication.
Geldof was caring for her then 11-month-old son Phaedra at the time of her death and it's been claimed he was found next to her body.
In a tragic case of history repeating itself, Geldof's mother, Paula Yates, also died from an accidental heroin overdose in 2000, aged 41.
At the time of her death she was also alone with her daughter with Michael Hutchence, Tiger Lily, then aged four.
Just hours before she died, Peaches posted a picture of her with a smiling Yates and the words ''me and my Mum''.
In 2010, Peaches was dropped from a lucrative modelling contract after pictures emerged of then 21-year-old naked and apparently high on heroin.
This followed an incident in 2008 when she was seen handing 190 pounds (abuot $340) to a known drug pusher and another incident, in the same year, where she supposedly left a drugs 'shopping list' in a London pub.
It has been suggested that Peaches injected heroin for the first time in 2011.
The Telegraph reports that during the inquest of her friend Freddy McConnel, 18, who died of a drugs overdose in 2011, it was revealed that he had written in his diary a few months earlier: "Peaches is coming over later and I am going to inject for the first time. Perhaps I will die. I hope I don't."
Despite this, the young mother had attempted to escape the London partying scene. She had moved with her family to the countryside in an attempt to recreate the "idyllic childhood" she had experienced in Kent.
In her final interview, Peaches spoke of turning her life around and mending the damage caused by her own mother's death.
"Now that I am a mum I can correct those awful parts of my childhood and it's a really healing process," she said.
"Before, I was not at peace with myself about it because I was just traumatised.
"That's why I was living a chaotic lifestyle. But now I have the kids I can heal the situation. It's so good in every single way, really."
But, like her mother, Peaches was still known to try and dull her demons through drugs.
"Whenever Peaches was in trouble, she self-medicated because that was what she had done all her life," a friendtold The Mirror in April."She really tried not to but this was just part of who Peaches was.
"She was very complicated. She desperately wanted to be a certain type of girl with a perfect life and a perfect family.
"But things just aren't like that.
"Peaches had a dark side. Everyone knew that, including her family who have been through hell with her drug problems over the past decade.
"In the last few weeks she seemed overwhelmed. She always kept a lot of plates spinning with her work and finances.
"She was the main bread-winner and that put her under a lot of strain.
"She also felt incredibly lonely. She was once so excited at moving to the Kent countryside where she remembers her early childhood for being so happy.
"But recently she wanted to return to London. She wanted to be nearer to her sisters and her friends."
A post-mortem proved inconclusive, however blood and tissue samples were sent off to a laboratory and tested for toxins.
It is said that the results from these tests have now been received by the coroner.
Geldof was laid to rest on Easter Monday in the same church where she married her husband Thomas Cohen two years ago. Her mother's funeral was also held at the same church fourteen years ago.
